A Siemens boss, his family, and their pilot perished in a helicopter crash. What we know is as follows:

On Thursday, a family outing over the foggy skyline of Manhattan turned tragic when a tour helicopter crashed into the Hudson River.

Three children and their parents, who had both worked for Siemens, a major technology company based in Germany, were among the six passengers on the helicopter. It took out from a heliport in Manhattan and flew on a well-known path, circled the Statue of Liberty, heading south after gliding north along the Hudson toward the George Washington Bridge. CNN and FlightRadar24 have reported that the plane crashed into the water approximately 16 minutes after takeoff.

According to witnesses, the chopper flipped and spiraled before crashing upside down close to the New Jersey shore, sending debris across the water.

Sarah Jane Raymond Ryer, a witness to the disaster, told CNN’s WCBS, “I saw the propeller come off the helicopter—it was tilted slightly forward and just kept spinning on its own.” “It was no longer associated with anything.”

The rotor blades can be seen flying into the air after separating from the airplane in footage that CNN was able to capture. The footage is “very dramatic and very important to the investigation,” according to Peter Goelz, the former managing director of the National Transportation Safety Board.

Avi Rakesh, another witness, told CNN’s Jessica Dean that the helicopter debris seemed to be entirely out of control and that he felt worried even inside his own building.

There was debris flying in all directions. Rakesh remarked, “I was worried that something might come and hit the window.”

What we know about the crash that killed all those on board is as follows:

Among the victims were a Siemens family and a pilot.

According to a social media post by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, the family was in New York to celebrate Camprubí’s 40th birthday, while New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated that the victims were Agustín Escobar, 49, his wife, Mercè Camprubí Montal, and their three children.

We are extremely saddened by the unfortunate helicopter incident in which Agustin Escobar and his family lost their lives. We send our deepest sympathies to all of their loved ones,” a Siemens Mobility representative said.

At Siemens AG’s transportation solutions division, Siemens Mobility, Escobar was the CEO of Rail Infrastructure.

In his condolence message, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez described the incident as “an unimaginable tragedy.”

Camprubí was the global commercialization manager for Siemens Energy, according to her LinkedIn page. Siemens Energy is an independent firm that was split off from Siemens AG in 2020.

Siemens Energy released a statement saying, “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of a colleague due to a tragic accident during vacation.” “We send our deepest sympathies and thoughts to the victims’ friends, family, and coworkers.”

Apart from her global business career, Camprubí is well-known in Spain for being a part of a well-known sports family. Both Camprubí’s grandfather and great-grandfather were presidents of FC Barcelona, one of the world’s most well-known soccer teams.

The identity of the pilot who was murdered has not yet been made public by authorities.

For additional details on the victims, CNN has contacted the US Coast Guard and the New York Police Department.

What took place

Although the cause of the collision is yet unknown, observers were taken aback by its abrupt plummet as emergency personnel hurried to save the lives of the victims.

Following a well-traveled tourist route, the helicopter departed Manhattan’s downtown heliport at 2:59 p.m., according to Jessica Tisch, commissioner of the New York Police Department. By 3:08 p.m., it had circled the Statue of Liberty and was flying north along the Hudson River to the George Washington Bridge. According to Tisch, it soon lost control after turning south toward the New Jersey beach.

Ten miles could be seen at the time, although the area was overcast with winds of 10 to 15 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph. Later in the afternoon, a weather system was predicted to deliver light rain.

In Hoboken, New Jersey, several 911 calls at 3:17 p.m. reported a collision close to Pier A Park. According to witnesses, the helicopter seemed to stop in midair before fragments broke off, which is in line with early emergency reports, Tisch added.

Ipsitaa Banigrhi, a resident of Jersey City, called the noise “such a loud sound.” She told WCBS that it felt like thunder. Then I noticed flying black particles. Once more, I assumed it might just be dust or birds, but then we heard all the sirens and emergency cars passing. It was like, “Okay, what’s happening?” at that point, I believe.

There was really no way to navigate the helicopter to safety after it suffered a catastrophic malfunction in midair, a former combat pilot told CNN’s Kate Bolduan.

“The pilot could not have saved the aircraft at that time,” Brandt Anderson stated.

Tisch said six people were retrieved from the water by NYPD and NYC Fire Department first responders. Tragically, two people died soon after from their wounds, while four were declared dead at the site. Two of the victims were youngsters who were transferred to Jersey City Medical Center but did not survive, according to a later post on X by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop.

According to WCBS, personnel pulled the aircraft’s main component out of the river on Thursday night, and dive teams kept searching into Friday.

Past incidents involving safety

Federal aviation authorities had previously looked into two safety incidents involving the helicopter’s operator.

A pilot with the New York Helicopter Charter firm had to make a quick landing in New Jersey in 2015 after briefly hovering 20 feet in the air. According to an FAA inspector at the time, an initial examination revealed that parts of the helicopter “may have had corrosion removed” and that some of its component parts might have been so distorted that they were “considered unairworthy.” In 2010, the same helicopter was involved in another crash in Chile.

After hearing a “bang” and then the “Engine Out warning horn,” a pilot for the company was forced to land a helicopter with four passengers on the water close to Manhattan in 2013. After inflating the helicopter’s floats, the pilot evacuated the occupants onto a boat.

Regarding Thursday’s tragedy, Michael Roth, the CEO of the business running the trip, told CNN, “The only thing I can tell you is that we are devastated.” “My wife has been crying nonstop since this afternoon, and I am a father and a grandfather.

He responded, “That’s something my director of maintenance handles,” when asked about the helicopter’s upkeep. The maintenance director chose not to respond.

Public access to maintenance records is prohibited, and the NTSB limits what businesses can reveal while an inquiry is underway.

“It should have taken him around three minutes to arrive after (the pilot) called in to say he needed fuel and that he was landing, but he didn’t arrive for twenty minutes,” Roth told The Telegraph on Thursday.

Details of the aircraft: A model with a problematic past

According to Federal Aviation Administration data, the Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV helicopter was manufactured in 2004 and had an airworthiness certificate granted in 2016 that was good until 2029.

Maintenance records are private, and NTSB regulations forbid businesses from disclosing specific accident-related information while an inquiry is underway.

Documentation of all the work done on the aircraft will be examined as part of the investigation into what caused the tragedy. This would include adherence to two recent airworthiness directives issued by the FAA.

A May 2023 instruction mandated that eight distinct Bell 206L models, including the 206L-4, have their tail rotor drive shafts tested and potentially replaced. An incident in which a Bell 206L helicopter lost a tail-rotor drive because of a joint failure served as the impetus for that instruction.

Additionally, the FAA issued an airworthiness directive in December 2022 for Bell 206L models that included certain parts that needed to be inspected and maybe replaced because of “delamination” in the main rotor blades of the helicopters. The rotor blade may fail as a result of layers inside the blade separating because of material fatigue, damage (from bird strikes, for instance), or manufacturing faults.

Whether any of these problems contributed to Thursday’s crash is still unknown.

An investigation is in progress.

The crash is being looked into by the NTSB and the FAA. On social media, the NTSB announced that it had sent a “go-team” to the scene to inspect the wreckage and check over maintenance records. It also asked people to share any further images or videos they may have.

In an X post, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy stated that the helicopter was operating within New York’s Special Flight Rules Area, which has little air traffic control support. LaGuardia Airport provided air traffic support to the helicopter just before to its entry into the uncontrolled area, Duffy continued.

Though ‘mad’ over the Mavericks deal, Luka Doncic of the Lakers is prepared to move on.

Luka Doncic, a guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, said he felt a mixture of “happiness and anger” about his trade from the Dallas Mavericks before scoring 45 points against his old team. He added, “Now it’s time to move on.” Doncic made the comments Wednesday in Dallas following his second performance with 40 or more points for the Lakers. The five-time All-NBA selection scored 31 of his 45 points in the first half of the Lakers’ 112-97 victory at American Airlines Center, the court where he played for six seasons before making his first appearance in a different jersey.

“After the game, I was feeling a little bit of both — happy and angry,” Doncic said to reporters. However, seeing some familiar faces was pleasant. I been here for a long time. Many different emotions were present.

I woke up feeling exhausted. didn’t sleep well. This game had me giddy with anticipation. I am grateful to the fans for their response to me.

Every feeling for Luka’s coming back to Dallas ❤️

Before Luka ever on the court with the Lakers, the Mavericks paid respect to him with a video.
April 9, 2025 📽️ pic.twitter.com/462QhwjDRC – ESPN

At American Airlines Center, about 21,000 fans flocked to see Doncic’s tearful comeback. Ten lead changes and ten ties occurred during the game. Doncic ended with four steals, six assists, and eight rebounds. Doncic started crying as the Mavericks’ tribute video played right before player introductions.

As he took the court, he was warmly greeted by fans who gave him a standing ovation.

Doncic scored 14 of the Lakers’ 26 points in the first quarter alone. In the second quarter, he added 17 more points to help the Lakers overcome a four-point deficit and take a 60-57 halftime lead. In the second half, the Lakers scored 52–40 more points than the Mavericks.

Doncic made seven out of ten shots from outside the arc and ten out of sixteen from the field.

LeBron James, a forward for the Lakers, scored 27 points, 19 of which came in the second half and 13 of which came in the fourth quarter. Austin Reaves, a guard, and forward Rui Hachimura each contributed 11 and 15 points.

Naji Marshall, a guard for Dallas, scored the most points with 23. In the transaction that brought Doncic to the Lakers, veteran forward Anthony Davis finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

Doncic was cheered on by Mavericks supporters throughout the game. Even his old jersey was worn by many. Their backing did not, however, prevent them from jeering at general manager Nico Harrison, who has come under heavy fire for moving away the superstar.

Luka Doncic stayed focused on the game in spite of the tribute and the emotional comeback. Throughout the game, he and LeBron James demonstrated their synergy by combining for a string of clutch plays that kept the Mavericks’ defense on its heels. Following the game, Doncic embraced a number of his old teammates and spoke with Dallas head coach Jason Kidd, who served as a mentor to him in his early NBA career.

Doncic continued to think back on his time in Dallas during the news conference held after the game.

I have a lot of feelings for this city. I developed both as a player and as a person there. He declared, “I will always love the organization and the fans.” However, there are instances when change is required. Now that I’m in a new chapter, I’m welcoming it.

Analysts and Mavericks supporters are still split on the historic transaction. Many people think that losing a generational talent like Luka was a mistake that might plague the organization for years, even though some people recognize the team’s long-term rebuilding vision. Even though he was wearing purple and gold, cries of “Luka! Luka!” reverberated around the arena, which is uncommon for any former player to play against their previous team again.

The Doncic-LeBron combination is crucial to the Lakers’ chances of advancing far into the postseason as they are presently in the middle of the Western Conference playoff race. Doncic’s maturity and leadership were commended by head coach Darvin Ham, who described him as “an elite competitor who rises to the occasion.”

There are still unanswered concerns regarding the Mavericks’ team dynamic and future course. Despite being a force in the paint, Anthony Davis has not yet completely adapted to the Mavericks’ system. However, the front staff maintains that the team will eventually settle into a rhythm.

Doncic, meanwhile, took more than just a victory with him when he left Dallas. He departed with clarity, closure, and maybe even serenity.

“Emotions will always return here,” Luka remarked. However, I’m pleased with my performance. For them, and now for the Lakers, I gave it everything I had.

Trump’s tariff war against China begins a conflict that the US might not be able to prevail in.

President Donald Trump recently sparked a frontal confrontation with the only country that could defeat the US in a trade war.

The most significant shift in Trump’s worldwide tariff campaign to date is his escalation against China, which is set to face tariffs of at least 104% on goods entering the US. This move has the greatest potential to cause extreme price increases for American residents.

The conflict comes after years of US efforts to resolve alleged Chinese trade violations. It also marks the end of ten or more years of deteriorating ties brought on by a hostile superpower that was once a Pacific rival but now appears eager to confront US hegemony in an assertive and patriotic manner.

Additionally, it marks a somber turning point in a diplomatic partnership that will shape the twenty-first century and the end of a protracted US initiative to keep tensions from turning into a full-fledged trade war, or even worse, between two titans. In response, China announced 84% punitive taxes on US goods imports on Wednesday.

Since President Richard Nixon’s historic visit to Chairman Mao Zedong in an attempt to “open” a remote and destitute country and to create a rift between its leaders and their communist counterparts in the Soviet Union, the US has been attempting to control China’s rise for more than 50 years. Another significant event occurred over 25 years ago when the US forced China to join the World Trade Organization in an effort to lock it into a rules-based, Western-oriented economic system and encourage democratic transformation.

During Trump’s second term, the final failure of those well-meaning initiatives is being exposed. The populist tsunami that brought the president to power was partially a response to globalization, which sent US manufacturing jobs to China and left devastation in its wake.

Deal prospects with China appear bleak.

According to Trump, several countries are keen to negotiate trade agreements to offset the costly US tariffs.

However, China is refusing to join them.

Beijing said it was prepared to battle to “the end” in response to Trump’s caution not to retaliate against a previous 34% levy on top of a first wave of charges. After a rapidly escalating altercation with President Xi Jinping, the US leader had to maintain his credibility on Wednesday by enforcing his threat to levy a massive import tax on goods from the second-largest economy in the world.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated Tuesday that nations such as China are making a mistake by choosing to react and attempt to intensify their abuses of American workers. “Under President Trump’s leadership, America will not shatter, and he has a steely spine.”

This is the most significant setback in a turbulent week since the US president announced his “Liberation Day” tariffs in the White House Rose Garden, given the enormous amount of personal and political capital Trump has now spent in the confrontation with Xi.

China has been preparing for their confrontation for years, and it is displaying every indication that it believes it can outlast Trump. Furthermore, it is unclear whether Trump and his senior officials are completely aware of how resilient China is or how much harm it could cause to American consumers.

The US president is mistaken if he thought that his “great relationship” with Xi, which he praises virtually every day, would result in a swift Chinese takeover. A trade deal with Beijing that resembled the one from the first Trump administration, which mostly collapsed during the epidemic, doesn’t appear likely to happen anytime soon.

Due to both sides’ hubris, tensions are at an all-time high over trade.

Trump is exaggerating when he says that trade partners have “raped” and “pillaged” the US. But several presidents have expressed similar complaints about Beijing’s actions. Import dumping, market access for US companies, intellectual property theft, currency manipulation, and industrial espionage are all common causes of tensions. Prior White Houses attempted to change China’s conduct by implementing targeted enforcement and other sanctions. The bipartisan consensus in Washington that Beijing poses the biggest military and economic danger to US dominance has been strengthened by years of animosity in the relationship.

Trump, however, is unmatched in his hostility. As the largest trading nation in the world, according to the US Trade Representative’s office, he sees this as his one and maybe last chance to change the US dynamic. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, “We have one chance at this.”

However, his approach lacks a clear strategy and is impetuous and indiscriminate.

Additionally, it demonstrates a lack of regard for Chinese authority and dignity, which is a common element in the administration’s interactions with other nations.

Vice President JD Vance, for example, made fun of China last week when he criticized previous US trade policies. He claimed that in order to purchase the goods that those Chinese peasants produce, we borrow money from them. “That is not a formula for financial success. “It’s not a recipe for good jobs in the United States of America, nor is it a recipe for low prices,” Vance said on “Fox & Friends.”

The vice president’s disdainful comments disregarded China’s economic transition. It is currently at the forefront of innovation in a wide range of fields, including energy generation, electric vehicles, and artificial intelligence. Vance’s remarks were denounced by Beijing on Tuesday as “astonishing,” “lamentable,” “ignorant,” and “disrespectful.”

Xi is unable to compromise due to significant political, global, and economic factors.

The brutal Chinese leader portrays himself as a historic force behind the legitimate resurgence of Chinese civilization’s dominance and renown. Thus, it would be impossible to submit to a tough-talking American president. In addition to undermining China’s own might, displaying weakness in front of the United States would be viewed as a loss of face, particularly in Asia.

In contrast, China’s discourse is rife with presumptions that the US is attempting to destroy its political and economic structure. For example, China’s embassy spokesperson in Washington, Liu Pengyu, denounced US tariffs on Tuesday as “abuse” and a violation of China’s “legitimate rights.”

The animosity in Beijing and Washington is being exacerbated by hubris.

The official Chinese media is adamant that America is a failing empire. Trump’s second term as president and the political turmoil he causes are viewed as signs of weakness rather than strength.

China’s claim that the US is an untrustworthy partner and that its version of capitalism combined with political control is a better model is further supported by Trump’s antics and attacks on US friends, particularly those in Southeast Asia.

Xi’s reorientation and modernization of the Chinese economy are also key factors in China’s confidence ahead of what may turn out to be a protracted trade war with the United States.

According to Lily McElwee, an adjunct fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, “I think if you are Xi Jinping right now, you’re thinking, ‘Well, hey, on the metrics that I care about — technological resilience and self-reliance, we are doing okay, these tariffs may not immediately impact us.” According to McElwee, president and CEO of the Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations, Xi might also think that China has “retaliatory tools that (it) can impose that will be costly to the United States as well” in addition to its core capabilities.

Unlike Trump, who is concerned about how a trade war would affect impending elections like the congressional midterms next year, Xi is a true authoritarian leader. Furthermore, Xi might believe he can afford to hurt the Chinese more than Trump can hurt Americans, even though public opinion is still significant in China.

Americans might file a lawsuit for trade peace on terms that benefit Beijing if US inflation spikes and triggers a recession.

Americans will soon experience severe economic hardship.

American customers are going to suffer.

According to the USTR, China has emerged as the United States’ largest foreign supplier of products, making up as much as sixteen percent of all imports in recent years. It controls the market for toys, computers, and smartphones; when the new tariffs take effect, they will probably see steep price increases that will make them unaffordable for many Americans. China now faces an effective average tariff rate of 125% when combined with Biden administration taxes on the country, which increased on Trump’s first-term levies.

Trump may have been so fixated on locating alternate supply sources in countries like Greenland and Ukraine because Beijing can also impose additional sanctions on the US, such as suspending export permits for rare earth minerals that are essential to the US tech sector.

Chinese leaders may decide to impose further artificial restrictions on the flow of commodities to the US after witnessing the devastating inflationary impact of supply chain shortages during the pandemic in the US. Commercial companies and American legislation may be prohibited from doing business in China. Additionally, Beijing might shock the American agricultural heartland by restricting the import of sorghum and soy beans. Although all of these actions would harm both Chinese and Americans, they would show Xi’s ability to exact revenge.

Small companies are also at risk. Giants like Apple can look for other manufacturing locations, such as in India, but US companies that depend on Chinese products and parts will be severely impacted.

Alex Jacquez, a former special assistant for Economic Development and Industrial Strategy to President Joe Biden, stated that “if you are a small business, especially on the import side or the input side, there is going to be pain.” There will be further economic repercussions. There is a drag on GDP, which will have an impact on the labor market. Jacquez stated, “Inflationary pressure is what you are looking at.”

One of the issues here is that the strategy lacks direction and logical thought.

New developments have been added to this story.

The Memphis Grizzlies’ pivotal Jaylen Wells update follows a terrifying fall in their 124-100 victory over the Charlotte Hornets.

With 1:10 remaining in the second quarter, Jaylen Wells took a terrible fall, and the whole Memphis Grizzlies fan base held their breath. K.J. Simpson, a guard with the Charlotte Hornets, undercut the rookie swingman in midair as he attempted a dunk. Wells was eventually carried off the court on a stretcher after lying on the floor for some time.

Wells had shot 1-for-4 from the field and finished with three points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 11 minutes before leaving the game. The audience cheered as he was removed from the court, and Wells carefully lifted his hand to reassure supporters that he was alright.

Simpson was ejected from the game after receiving a Flagrant 2 foul for “unnecessary and excessive contact” with Wells.

Wells was “awake, alert, and had movement in his extremities” following the incident, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. However, he will continue receiving medical attention after incurring a fractured right wrist.

Memphis Grizzlies News: Ja Morant Responds to the Injury of Jaylen Wells

Wells left the game early, but the Memphis Grizzlies outscored the Charlotte Hornets 124-100 thanks to strong play. It was one of four high-scoring NBA games on Tuesday night, with six players scoring in double figures.

Ja Morant led the squad with 28 points on 10 of 21 shooting, five rebounds, eight assists, and four three-pointers, according to the live stats. Santi Aldama, Zach Edey, Jaren Jackson Jr., Scotty Pippen Jr., and Desmond Bane each scored 19, 17, 14, 11, and 10 points.

Following the game, Morant considered Wells’ injury.

Morant told Grind City Media, “My stomach turned when I saw the blood for the first time.”
It’s simply difficult. particularly for someone who has been contributing significantly to our team on both ends of the court and playing significant minutes. All we need to do is support him and continue to pray for him.

The Grizzlies’ Reaction to Jaylen Wells

Despite being a rookie, Jaylen Wells has already gained the respect of coaches, teammates, and fans. He has rapidly established himself as an important member of the rotation thanks to his drive, enthusiasm, and readiness to take on challenging tasks. Wells has been a bright spot in Memphis’ roster, whether it is by storming the boards, moving the ball, or displaying bursts of scoring ability.

Given the Grizzlies’ already injury-plagued season, his injury is definitely a setback. Nonetheless, the company is certain that Wells has the work ethic and mentality to recover more fully.

Following the game, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins also gave a brief speech:

Seeing a young man die like way is devastating. He has been playing the proper way and working hard. We will be there for him during his entire recuperation process.

Next Man Up: The Grizzlies Put Depth First

The Grizzlies’ victory over the Hornets demonstrated their versatility. With six players in double figures and impressive performances all around, Memphis proved that it can adjust to unforeseen difficulties.

While veterans like Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. emerged as reliable scoring options, Zach Edey, another rookie, made an impression in the paint. As the season goes on, the team appears resilient, motivated, and committed to maintaining its momentum.

Supporters Gather Around Wells

Social media was inundated with words of support for Jaylen Wells following the game. His tenacity and spirit were praised in well-wishes posted by teammates, fans, and even players from opposing teams.

A sincere statement was posted on the Grizzlies’ official account: “Wells is a fighter. #13, we’re with you. 💙”

Although he has not yet been given an official comeback date, preliminary reports indicate that he will be out for several weeks while he heals from the wrist fracture.

Gazing Ahead

In Wells’ absence, the Grizzlies will need to make some rotational changes, but their recent play indicates they can handle the challenge. Memphis is still a formidable foe in the Western Conference thanks to Morant spearheading the charge and important contributions from a strong bench.

Jaylen Wells, on the other hand, is only beginning his trip. And from what we’ve witnessed thus far, it’s clear that he will return and be prepared to contribute when the time comes.

Scientists claim to have brought the dire wolf back to life.

The “world’s first successfully de-extinct animal,” according to Dallas-based biotech company Colossal Biosciences, is a species of wolf that went extinct around 12,500 years ago.

Scientists at Colossal modified the genes of a gray wolf to produce three puppies using gene-editing, cloning, and ancient DNA technology. The business said on Monday that these new puppies are close genetic descendants of the ancient dire wolf. In essence, this creates a hybrid species that is quite similar to the long-extinct dire wolf.

Aenocyon dirus, the scientific name for the dire wolf, was a formidable predator that formerly roamed North America. Even the frightful dogs that appear in HBO’s popular series Game of Thrones were influenced by it. (CNN is also owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of HBO.) Colossal claimed that dire wolves were bigger than gray wolves, with bigger jaws, thicker fur, and slightly wider skulls.

Up until now, Colossal has not made its works with dire wolves public. The company began working on bringing extinct species like the Tasmanian tiger, woolly mammoth, and dodo back to life in 2021.

According to a news release from Colossal CEO and co-founder Ben Lamm, “This is a huge milestone—just the first of many to come—showing that our end-to-end de-extinction technology works.” “Our team created healthy wolf pups by extracting DNA from a 72,000-year-old skull and a 13,000-year-old tooth.”

Now, the three dire wolf pups reside on a secret 2,000-acre property, encircled by a fence that is 10 feet high and serves as a zoo enclosure. Drones, live camera feeds, and security guards keep an eye on the area. Colossal said the facility is registered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and certified by the American Humane Society.

Ancient DNA and New Information from Fossils

Colossal’s team and their associates were able to recreate two high-quality genomes—basically, full genetic blueprints—of Aenocyon dirus by obtaining ancient DNA from two dire wolf fossils.

To identify the distinctive genetic characteristics of dire wolves, such as their long, thick fur and white coats, they compared these genomes to those of extant canids like wolves, jackals, and foxes.

Based on this analysis, they made 20 changes to 14 genes in gray wolf cells. Following their identification, the most promising cell lines were cloned and transferred into donor eggs.

Following the transfer of these embryos into surrogate moms of other species, three pups were produced, making them the first known animals of an extinct species to be born in this manner, according to Colossal. Large, mixed-breed hunting dogs were utilized as surrogates, the company revealed to CNN.

Colossal reports that a female dire wolf pup was born on January 30, 2025, after two male puppies were born on October 1, 2024.

De-extinction by Gene Editing

According to Professor Love Dalén, an evolutionary geneticist at Stockholm University’s Centre for Palaeogenetics, the corporation basically used CRISPR technology to construct a hybrid genome, removing certain gray wolf genes and substituting them with dire wolf-related ones.

Dalén stated, “There is no secret—at the genome level, it’s still 99.9% gray wolf.” “How many genes must be altered to actually recreate a dire wolf is a philosophical question that scientists debate.”

“It’s pretty amazing that these pups have dire wolf genes, which give them the most dire wolf-like appearance we’ve seen in 13,000 years.”

Although he hasn’t seen the puppies in person or worked on the editing or cloning process, Dalén, who was “somewhat” involved in the genome study, said this is a “huge leap forward” in comparison to any previous work in the field.

They have, in my opinion, effectively replicated the morphological characteristics of a dire wolf, or its phenotype. And this is what they most likely looked like, according on what we know from the DNA. Therefore, it is a dire wolf in that regard.

Colossal has raised more than $435 million since its establishment in September 2021 by Harvard scientist George Church and serial entrepreneur Ben Lamm. Reviving the woolly mammoth was the company’s first public endeavor, albeit it took longer than anticipated. By 2028, Colossal claims to be on schedule to introduce the first mammoth calves.

Possibility of Conservation

According to Colossal, endangered species could benefit from the same technology that were utilized to reproduce the dire wolf. Using a less invasive cloning method created during dire wolf research, the business said on Monday that it had successfully cloned two litters of red wolves, one of the most endangered wolf species.

However, de-extinction opponents contend that the enormous sums of money invested on these initiatives would be better spent in other areas. Additionally, some are concerned that the production and rearing of hybrid animals may endanger surrogate species.

However, citing the facility’s size and the American Humane Society’s engagement, Christopher Preston, an environmental philosophy professor at the University of Montana, claimed that Colossal seemed to be taking animal welfare seriously.

Preston continued, “They have eliminated harmful alterations that could be connected to unfavorable results and have taken careful measures to check for any unexpected genetic effects from their edits.”

However, he pointed out that it’s difficult to see dire wolves being let loose and contributing to modern ecosystems—something Colossal claims is a long-term objective with their genetically modified mammoths.

“We already struggle to maintain healthy gray wolf populations on the ground—even with political pushback—in places like Montana,” Preston stated. Therefore, it’s unlikely that dire wolves will ever be allowed to roam freely. What function will these new animals truly serve is therefore a crucial question.

A More Comprehensive View of De-Extinction

Colossal’s initiatives are a part of a broader global discussion on de-extinction, a field of study that combines cutting-edge genetics with ethical, ecological, and conservation concerns. Critics are concerned about unforeseen repercussions, expensive costs, and manipulating nature, while supporters contend that it could restore equilibrium to ecosystems that have been upset by human activities.

According to Ben Lamm, CEO of Colossal, these initiatives are far from science fiction. He stated, “It’s not just about reviving extinct species.” “The goal is to create technologies that can enhance biodiversity, protect endangered species today, and possibly even undo some of the harm that humans have caused to the planet.”

Many experts, however, advise caution. The idea of reintroducing long-gone predators like the dire wolf or woolly mammoth into modern ecosystems is deeply controversial. These animals’ ability to adapt, their interactions with modern species, and the existence of the ecosystems in which they originally lived are all up for debate.

Science historian and de-extinction specialist Dr. Elizabeth Jones observes that the public’s interest in reviving extinct species frequently obscures the moral and practical issues. “Creating a living animal in a lab is one thing,” she explains. “Reintroducing that animal into the wild in a responsible manner is a completely different matter.”

The Prospects for Conservation and De-extinction

Colossal’s dire wolves are currently kept in a safe, supervised setting. Although the business has not disclosed any intentions for public exhibition or release, it states that part of its long-term strategy is to collaborate closely with ecologists, wildlife biologists, and legislators to make sure that any reintroductions in the future are sustainable and well-considered.

Their work continues to provoke discussion and interest in the interim. Depending on who you ask, these resurrected dire wolves could either be a scientific advance or a step into uncharted territory.

However, one thing is certain: science has advanced to the point where de-extinction is actually occurring and not just a theory.

According to Colossal and its collaborators, as the research develops, their ultimate objective is to apply what they learn to safeguard the future—for wolves, wildlife, and the planet itself—rather than merely resurrecting the past.

Dire Wolf Revived: Scientists Successfully Bring Back Extinct Predator

The Dallas-based biotech company Colossal Biosciences has made a significant scientific advance by successfully reviving the dire wolf, a species that went extinct around 12,500 years ago. The business has produced three dire wolf pups, the first animals to be brought back from extinction in history, using cutting-edge gene editing, cloning, and ancient DNA.

The size, appearance, and athletic prowess of these genetically modified pups, which were created by adding Aenocyon dirus-specific characteristics to gray wolf DNA, closely mirror those of their prehistoric predecessors. The enormous dogs in HBO’s Game of Thrones were notably modeled after the dire wolf.

Drones and security personnel are keeping an eye on the 2,000-acre complex where the pups are being kept. The pups, two boys born in October 2024 and one female in January 2025, were born using domestic dogs as surrogates, according to Colossal.

The project has been criticized for its practical application and ethical issues, despite being heralded as a significant turning point in de-extinction science. Reintroducing such species into contemporary ecosystems could be difficult and dangerous, according to experts.

The same technology might help safeguard endangered species today, according to Colossal, who is also aiming to bring back the woolly mammoth and dodo. Red wolves have already been cloned by the business utilizing less invasive techniques created during this study.

One thing is certain while the de-extinction discussion rages on: the science that was previously thought of as science fiction is now a reality.

Protests against Trump’s policies occur in the US and Europe.

More than 1,200 rallies are scheduled to allow Trump’s detractors to voice their disapproval. Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency has cut 200,000 of the 2.3 million federal positions it oversees.

WASHINGTON: As protests against President Donald Trump and his billionaire ally Elon Musk’s plans to expand presidential authority and overhaul government began on Saturday, thousands of people poured into downtown Washington. According to organizers, over 20,000 people attended the rally at Washington’s National Mall, and over 1,200 demonstrations were planned across the United States. This is expected to be the largest single day of protest, giving Trump’s opponents a chance to express their disapproval in large numbers in response to a number of executive orders.

The event website states that about 150 activist groups have registered to take part. Protests were organized in Canada, Mexico, and all 50 states.

In Washington, amid overcast skies and a little drizzle, protesters lined Connecticut Avenue, a bustling route, waiting for buses to transport them downtown. They were carrying placards that said things like “Deport Musk” and “No Kings in the USA.”

Hundreds of people gathered early in front of the platform beneath the Washington Monument, including retired Princeton, New Jersey biomedical expert Terry Klein.

She claimed that she drove down to the event in order to voice her opposition to Trump’s policies on a variety of issues, including immigration, DOGE, this week’s tariffs, and education. “I mean, everything that makes America what it is—all of our institutions—is being attacked.”

According to David Madden, a 75-year-old retired trial lawyer and army veteran, he flew from Dayton, Ohio, to protest against the national injustice, the institutions being stolen from the American people, the judicial system’s confusion, and the reality that “we have a population that I believe is essentially racist.”

Over 200,000 of the 2.3 million federal employees have lost their jobs as a result of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency team slicing through the US government with President Trump’s approval. The endeavor has occasionally been haphazard, necessitating the recall of necessary professionals.

Over 20,000 employees, or up to 25% of the Internal Revenue Service’s workforce, were laid off starting Friday.

Social Security is the primary objective

In protest of cuts to the agency that provides benefits to the elderly and disabled, several hundred people gathered on Saturday outside the headquarters of the Social Security Administration, a major DOGE target, outside Baltimore.

Following the agency’s recent announcement of 7,000 personnel layoffs and the termination of phone services for millions of claimants, the atmosphere was one of defiance and rage.

For weeks, DOGE personnel have been inside the structure. Hands off Social Security, Where Has My Country Gone?, FIRE DOGE!, and Send Musk to Mars were among the handcrafted placards held by several of the largely elderly throng.

In front of the audience, Linda Falcao, who will turn 65 in two months, explained that she has been contributing to the Social Security fund since she was sixteen.

She remarked, “I’m scared, I’m mad, I’m confused that this could happen to the United States.” “I’m devastated, but I do love America. I must have my money. I want my money back. I want my benefits.”

“It’s our money,” the audience chanted in response.

Liz Huston, the assistant press secretary for the White House, denied the demonstrators’ accusation that Trump intended to reduce Medicaid and Social Security.

“President Trump has made it clear that he would always defend Medicaid, Social Security, and Medicare for those who qualify.

In an email, Huston stated, “The Democrats’ position is providing illegal aliens with Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare benefits, which will bankrupt these programs and crush American seniors.”

Lawsuits arguing that Donald Trump has overreached himself by attempting to deport immigrants, remove government officials, and rescind transgender rights have limited much of his agenda.

With a series of executive orders and other policies that his detractors claim are in line with Project 2025, a deeply conservative political program to restructure government and strengthen presidential authority, Trump took office again on January 20.

Trump’s followers have praised his boldness, seeing it as essential to upending long-standing liberal interests.

European demos

Hundreds of anti-Trump Americans residing in Europe gathered in Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, and London just hours before the protests in the US began to express their disapproval of the radical overhaul of US foreign and domestic policies.

About 200 people, primarily Americans, gathered on the Place de la Re publique in Paris, where they heard lectures and waved banners that said “Save Democracy,” “Feminists for Freedom Not Fascism,” “Rule of Law,” and “Resist Tyrant.”

Timothy Kautz, a spokesman for Democrats Abroad, stated in Frankfurt that “we have to show solidarity with all the demonstrations in a thousand cities today in the USA.” Jose Sanchez, a protester, claimed that Trump was a liar and that democracy was being destroyed.

Gretzky’s NHL scoring record is now tied at 894 goals after Ovechkin’s “Great 8” chase.

The Eight Great Ties The Magnificent One With Objective No. 894

I was making the Alex Ovechkin watch ten days ago, complete with the Washington Capitals captain countdown and “The Great 8” quest (he wears number eight) to beat the legendary Wayne Gretzky’s 894-goal NHL regular season scoring record. With 35 goals this season, “Ovi” was attempting to make history and was getting closer to Gretzky’s 888 career goals. At the time, the Capitals had 104 points and were in the lead for the Presidents Trophy (most points, i.e., best overall record). The chances for Ovechkin to surpass Gretzky’s record were -114, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

In front of the devoted Capital One Arena crowd, Ovechkin scored two more goals and his team-high 40th and 41st of the season as the Capitals defeated the Chicago Black Hawks 5-3 at home last night. In his 1,486th game of the regular season, 39-year-old Russian Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin tied the record for most goals scored by a hockey player with 894 goals. The odds of Ovechkin surpassing Gretzky’s record this season in the Capitals’ remaining seven games were -480 on FanDuel prior to that game.

Additionally, Wayne Gretzky contacted Ovechkin prior to the Capitals vs. Black Hawks game.

Ovechkin claims, “Wayne texted me prior to the game.” “The score was three,” he said. This is a unique moment. It’s fantastic for hockey, DC, and for all of our supporters to participate here in Washington.

It’s enjoyable. Being in that group with those names is always a joy, and I appreciate your support, Wayne. It’s fantastic.

The passion and involvement have been increasing, and it’s safe to assume that Capitals supporters were watching and placing bets on their team both at Caesars Vegas-style sportsbook inside Capital One Arena and on their mobile devices.

“It was really cool to see these fans pleading for it all night, and I think that’s even more special in a somewhat familiar setting [his office].” John Carlson, Ovechkin’s teammate, who finished with three assists, including a nice main assist on Ovi’s power play goal 894 in the third period, added, “the engagement.”

Ovechkin went from almost pick ’em odds to a 5/1 favorite in just ten days, defying the odds once more. Along with player awards, FanDuel’s daily hockey odds offer additional betting choices such as Stanley Cup odds and futures. Ovechkin is now most likely to break the record and score his 895th career regular season goal over the next six games of the Capitals, hence the Gr8 Chase promotion has been removed.

Stanley Cup Odds, Playoff Picture And Key Games Remaining

Capitals schedule

  • April 6 – at New York Islanders
  • April 10 – Carolina Hurricanes
  • April 12 – at Columbus Blue Jackets
  • April 13 – Columbus Blue Jackets
  • April 15 – at New York Islanders
  • April 17 – at Pittsburgh Penguins

Here were the odds or the player to record an Assist on Ovechkin’s 895th career regular season goal:

  • Dylan Strom: (-140)
  • Aliaksei Protas (+310)
  • John Carlson (+400)
  • Tom Wilson (+520)
  • Martin Fehervary (+560)
  • Jakob Chychrun (+750)
  • Matt Roy (+750)
  • Pierre-Luc Dubois (+1000)
  • Unassisted (+1000)

With his next goal, Ovechkin will break the record of the greatest hockey player in history, and Gretzky will be present at every game. Gretzky was at a news conference Thursday night after Ovechkin’s record-tying performance with The Great One’s goal scoring record on the verge of being broken, so it’s important to acknowledge his accomplishments.

With 2,857 points in 1,487 games, Gretzky finished his career with 894 goals and 1,963 assists, more than 900 points ahead of Jaromir Jagr, who was next in line, and more than 1,200 points ahead of Ovechkin. In addition to playing in 208 postseason games, the legendary No. 99 scored 382 points with 122 goals and 260 assists. Gretzky scored more than 200 points in a season four times, making him the first NHL player to do so. During his 15 professional seasons, the Great Gretzky also scored more than 100 points. The 38-year-old owned 61 NHL records when he retired from the New York Rangers in 1999, including 40 regular season records, 15 playoff records, and six All-Star records.

Gretzky broke multiple scoring records during the 1985–86 season, including an NHL record 215 points on 52 goals and 163 assists, the fourth time he reached 200 points and the only player to ever surpass that mark. He also won four Stanley Cups with the 1980s dynasty Edmonton Oilers.

In addition, FanDuel offered odds on which game Ovechkin will score goal No. 895 to surpass Gretzky’s record, among other proposition (props) bet possibilities. The odds of getting the hat trick and scoring three goals against the Black Hawks were +2200, or 22/1. In the last minute, Ovechkin had a chance for an empty net goal, but another Washington player took advantage of it, and rookie Ryan Leonard scored his first NHL goal in his ninth game.

In one of the back-to-back games against the Capitals on April 12–13, the odds were most likely (+180) that Ovechkin will break the record against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Stanley Cup and Playoff Prospects for the Capitals

With the best record and the first playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, the Capitals will win the Metroplitan Division. Washington (107 points) is still in the running for the Presidents’ Trophy, behind the Winnipeg Jets (108), while the Dallas Stars (104), the Jets’ Central division rival, are also in the running.

Only 8 out of 38 Presidents’ Trophy winners have won the Stanley Cup, and none since the Chicago Black Hawks’ lockout-shortened 2012–13 campaign. The last club to win the Cup and the Presidents’ Trophy for an entire season was the Detroit Red Wings (115 points) (2008).

FanDuel presently has the Capitals at +1100, or 11/1, to win the Stanley Cup. The defending Stanley Cup winners Florida Panthers (+550), Dallas Stars (+550), Vegas Golden Knights (+800), Carolina Hurricanes (+900), Colorado Avalanche (+950), as well as the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers (also +1100), are among the teams with the shortest odds.

Vegas and Ovechkin’s Capitals

To maintain their lead over the Capitals for the Presidents’ Trophy, Winnipeg defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-0 in Las Vegas on April 3. George McPhee, President of Hockey Operations for the Golden Knights, has ties to the Capitals because he was the Washington Capitals’ General Manager and Vice-President of Hockey Operations from 1997 to 2014. The Capitals made their first-ever Stanley Cup appearance in 1997–98, and McPhee gave the District immediate success.

During the 2005–06 season, when Alex Ovechkin was a rookie living with the McPhee family, McPhee was first exposed to the energy, effort, power, and purpose that the No. 1 overall choice might possess. McPhee, who loves to ride his bike, asked Ovechkin to join him for a 20-mile trip down the Potomac River. After breakfast, McPhee woke up early to stretch, and according to the report, Ovechkin got out of bed, took a Coke, and then played follow the leader around the rocky terrain, setting the pace and displaying his strength and power.

The Washington Capitals defeated the tenacious and improbable Vegas Golden Knights in five games to win their first Stanley Cup in 2018. The chances for Vegas to win the Stanley Cup during their expansion season were as high as 500/1. Alex Ovechkin, the captain of the Capitals, was named the Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP and received the Conn Smythe Trophy. Five years later, in 2023, the Golden Knights would triumph over the odds to win the Stanley Cup.

Ovechkin is one of the top 10 players in the league and has +2700 odds to win the Conn Smythe this year. Logan Thompson, who spent the previous three seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights, is the top goalie for the Capitals.

With the NHL Playoffs beginning in two weeks, both teams are vying for another Stanley Cup as the top contenders. By that time, Ovechkin will probably have beaten the odds to become the NHL’s all-time top scorer, setting a record that looked unbeatable by the greatest hockey player of all time. However, Gretzkey will continue to hold the top spot in terms of points for decades to come.

In Friday’s semifinal, UConn, the -160, clear favorite to win the championship, is 7.5 points ahead of UCLA.

Last Sunday, UConn was the 10.5-point ATS favorite and the -650 moneyline favorite when the UConn vs. UCLA point spread began. However, that line was nearly instantly bet down to -8.5. It has shifted one more point in the direction of the Bruins in recent days. Two hours before tip-off, the total is back at 135.5 after dropping a half-point during the week.

There were many blowouts along UConn’s route to the Final Four. The Huskies defeated a JuJu Watkins-less USC in the Elite Eight (78-64) after thrashing #16 Arkansas State (103-34), #10 South Dakota State (91-57), and #3 Oklahoma (82-59). Paige Bueckers scored a career-high 31 points (20.1 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 4.8 APG) and freshman Sarah Strong (16.1 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 3.6 APG), the nation’s top recruit the previous season, had an incredible 22 points and 17 rebounds.

After defeating #2 LSU 72-65, UCLA advanced to the Final Four with three decisive victories: #16 Southern (84-46), #8 Richmond (84-67), and #5 Ole Miss (76-62). With 16 minutes left, the Bruins led 43-29, but with 3:23 left, they were forced into a three-point contest (56-53). To settle the score, UCLA would score the next six points.

Lauren Betts scored a season-high six blocks on defense in addition to her modest 17 points and seven rebounds versus LSU (20.0 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 2.8 APG). The Miami Heat’s Jaime Jaquez’s sister, junior guard Gabriela Jaquez (9.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 2.2 APG), came through with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds, going 4-of-5 from three. She scored the second most points of the season in that game.

Even though Torvik has only begun evaluating NCAAW rankings since the 2020–2021 year, this UConn squad is the best bunch in the scale’s history. Indeed, the 2025 Huskies had a much higher rating than the unbeaten South Carolina squad who took home the national title the previous year.

The reason is that, aside from a blip at Tennessee on February 6 (an 80-76 loss), UConn has been a complete nonpareil since New Year’s Day. Under head coach Geno Auriemma, his team has been playing suffocating defense; they have held 31 of 38 opponents under 60, and almost every player in their rotation is a threat from three-point range. UConn’s 38.3 3P% is sixth-best out of all 362 DI teams, and the Huskies’ 50.9% FG% is not only the best in the nation, but 1.6% better than any other team.

UCLA vs. UConn Predictions & Selections

At BetMGM, UConn is -7.5 (-110)

Over 9.5 rebounds and 105 points, Sarah Strong at DraftKings

The Huskies will find it extremely difficult to stop 6’7 Lauren Betts in the post, much like every other team in the country. However, Jana El Alfy, a freshman center, is at least tall enough to force Betts to work. In any case, UConn’s strength on defense is not its size but rather its quickness and athleticism. You can be certain that his defensive strategy is to prevent Betts from entering, rather than trying to cover her after she has the ball.

Due in part to the difficulty of getting the ball into the post against this defense, UConn’s opponents have made 40.4% of their three-point attempts this season.

Even though Betts has the ball in her hands tonight, the Bruins’ main issue will be trying to continue scoring twos while the Huskies are dominating threes. UCLA just makes 34% of its three-point attempts and shoots just 33.7% from beyond the arc. The Huskies make them at a much greater pace (38.3%) and take a lot more (36.2%).

I’m going to wager on Sarah Strong, a freshman phenom, to pull down double-digit rebounds at plus-money in addition to UConn -7.5. She has been a true monster on the glass in the tournament, despite only averaging 8.8 per game this season. In her four March Madness games, she has averaged 11.8 RPG; most recently, she recorded a career-high 17 points against USC, all of which came on defense.

Strong will be boxing out and cleaning up once more as her teammates try to force terrible shots from the outside.

Russell Brand is accused of sexual assault and rape.

Russell Brand is accused of misbehavior and sexual assault.

Russell Brand has been accused of rape, indecent assault, and sexual misconduct between 1999 and 2005.

The allegations come from four different women.

The police have investigated Brand on these grave charges several times since an investigative article by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4 Dispatches in September 2023.

“What I have never been is a rapist,” Brand said in a new video that was uploaded on X this afternoon. I’ve never done anything that wasn’t consenting.

He continued, “Now, I finally have the chance to defend myself in court, and I am incredibly grateful for that opportunity.”

The Metropolitan Police stated in a brief statement that Brand has been formally notified of several accusations, including two more instances of sexual misconduct, one crime of oral rape, one act of indecent assault, and one count of rape.

The Charges Against Brand

Police records state that the incidents reportedly occurred in:

A woman was raped in the Bournemouth region in 1999.

In Westminster, London, a woman suffered an indecent attack in 2001.

2004: In Westminster, another woman was sexually assaulted and raped orally.

In Westminster, a fourth woman experienced sexual assault in 2004–2005.

According to sources, Brand is now in the United States, despite having been summons to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2.

Prosecutors usually try to negotiate a suspect’s repatriation when they are living overseas. Authorities may attempt to extradite the suspect if they refuse to comply.

Continued Legal Actions & Investigations

An unnamed lady, known in court documents as AGX, sued Brand in the London High Court in February for “personal injury and sexual misconduct.”

Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) official Jaswant Narwal said, “Today, we have authorized the Metropolitan Police to charge Russell Brand with multiple sexual offenses.”

He went on to say, “We have determined that Russell Brand should face charges of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault after carefully examining the evidence in the wake of the September 2023 Channel 4 documentary. Four people and events that took place between 1999 and 2005 are the subject of these charges.

Additionally, the CPS stressed the value of a fair trial and asked the public to abstain from disseminating any information that would sway the outcome of the case.

“The women who have come forward continue to receive support from specially trained officers,” said Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is in charge of the inquiry.

Anyone with pertinent information is encouraged to come forward and get in touch with detectives by sending an email to CIT@met.police.uk, according to the Met Police.

Additionally, victims of sexual assault can get support around-the-clock through Rape Crisis.

The Ascent of the Brand to Notoriety and Disputations

Russell Brand, who was born in Essex, began his career as a stand-up comedian and became well-known in 2000 after appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Hackney Empire.

Later, he made the switch to radio and television, where he became a well-known host on national radio and television programs. He got his big break hosting Big Brother’s Big Mouth, a spin-off of the hit reality show Big Brother, in the middle of the 2000s.

He became well-known as a result, hosting events such as the MTV Awards and the NME Awards.

initiatives, as well as the Brit Awards.

Though he thrived on unpredictably chaotic situations, controversy plagued him throughout his career, particularly during live award events.

Brand aired radio shows for BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 from 2006 to 2008. However, in 2008, he was fired after a big scandal involving an inappropriate prank call to Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.

Later, he turned to Hollywood and starred in movies like Get Him to the Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Redefining Himself in the Public Eye

Brand’s focus has changed in recent years, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic.

He developed a sizable fan base on YouTube by challenging popular narratives regarding politics, culture, and public health while frequently delving into conspiracy theories.

He has further broadened his following by positioning himself as a wellness and self-help guru.

Even if he has changed, his career is now in jeopardy because to these grave accusations, and he will be facing legal action in the upcoming months.

Lakers player ratings: The team loses to the Warriors in a dismal manner

The Los Angeles Lakers found themselves in a contest that had significant playoff implications for the third consecutive game.

They played the Golden State Warriors, who were sixth in the Western Conference at the beginning of the day. With a 46-29 record, the Lakers were two games ahead of the Warriors, who were ranked third.

At Crypto.com Arena, this matchup was billed as an early playoff-style contest. However, following a scorching start, the Lakers found it difficult to make baskets, as though the Warriors had frozen them out. The Lakers missed 11 consecutive field goal tries at one time between the first and second quarters, which significantly affected the game’s outcome.

They only fired They shot 35.7% from the field in the first half and 34.7% in the third quarter. They never fully recovered after falling behind by double digits late in the second quarter. L.A. scored 39 points in the fourth quarter and even went on an 11-2 run to get within five points, but they were unable to get stops or secure defensive rebounds when they needed them most, losing 123-116.

One of the main problems was defensive rebounding, or the absence of it.

The Lakers gave up 14 offensive rebounds and were out-rebounded 46-39 overall, which allowed Golden State to score 23 second-chance points.

The Lakers fell to fourth place in the Western Conference with this defeat. There won’t be a pause if they were feeling worn out, which looked plausible considering how brief their jump shots were. On Friday, they take on the New Orleans Pelicans, and on Sunday, they take on the formidable Oklahoma City Thunder, who have a 64-12 record.

Grades of Players

Rui Hachimura: An

Hachimura provided much-needed momentum to the Lakers. He made three of his six efforts from beyond the arc and scored 24 points on 9 of 15 shots. In addition, he contributed three assists and pulled down six rebounds. He got some easy baskets late in the game thanks to his off-ball mobility.

D, Jaxson Hayes

One would have anticipated Hayes to feast close to the rim because the Warriors were playing small. However, he didn’t really contribute offensively and didn’t make good use of his size in the basket. In 15 minutes, he only managed three rebounds and finished with just two points on one of four shots.

Reaves, Austin: An

Reaves made every effort to give the Lakers a chance to win. He put a lot of effort on the boards in the first half and started the game with back-to-back threes. Despite being quiet in the middle of the quarter, he scored 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting in the fourth quarter. In the closing 86 seconds, he made three clutch three-pointers to keep the Lakers in it, transforming into a flamethrower.

In 40 minutes, he finished with 31 points on 10 of 20 shooting, including 6 three-pointers (all in the fourth), 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

D, Luka Doncic

Doncic never found a rhythm that was offensive. After shooting 3-of-11 in the first half, he didn’t get any better. Every time he drove into the paint, Warrior defenders surrounded him, and he missed all six of his three-point attempts.

He finished with eight rebounds, seven assists, one block, just one turnover, and 19 points on 6-of-17 shooting.

LeBron James: Excellent

LeBron finished with a team-high 33 points on 10-of-15 shooting, went 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, and made 8 of 9 free throws. He also had nine assists but committed four turnovers, including one with 2:23 remaining when the Lakers were down seven points. LeBron took it easy in the first half, scoring just eight points on 2-of-4 shooting, but he picked it up in the third quarter and made a big push in the fourth with eight quick points in less than 90 seconds, attempting to lead a late comeback.

D. Finney-Smith, Dorian

Finney-Smith struggled in this game despite recently shooting well from outside the arc. He just made one of six shots overall, missed all five of his three-point attempts, and only managed to score two points. He occasionally faced Steph Curry on defense and was competitive in certain situations, but his influence was minimal.

B, said Jarred Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt is a constant source of energy and bustle. He pulled down seven rebounds in just 13 minutes. He only made one of three shots from the field and scored two points, but the Lakers could have used a little more from him.

Gabe Vincent: D

Both ends of Vincent’s body ached. He only made one of five long-range shots and had no impact on defense.

Goodwin, Jordan: D

In 14 minutes, Goodwin made just one shot and failed to make it. Despite finishing without a point, he did provide two steals and three rebounds.
